Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: Joined a beginners swing (mostly sax) band.
Better: The leader of the band, Jo Gurr, ex professional is going to
be my tutor.
Worse: Hernia operation on the 22nd, so no sax for while. Wife
don't mind though

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
New: TJ horn sax0

Better: hopefully my sax playing abilities will be after roughly 4-5 years of practice - quite a few years to go then!

worse: sorelips, aching face and odd screeching sound. Talking becoming difficult due to inability to use face muscles (children are happy though as it hurts too much to shout at them...)

re previous post - I wonder if shouting at kids will strengthen face muscles...there's a thought!

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Better: I have now got used to my Graphtonite A5 Mouthpiece - I was'nt able to get Marca reeds from anywhere local so carried on with 2 and 2.5s but I am now able to play my old favourites Jazz select 3S. I have also bought some Lavoz 2ms and these are brill - I am getting a real dusky sound, which makes me want to play the sax even more. Thank you to Pete T for the technical exercises on his website, and the scales book download - I think these have helped strengthen my chops over the last couple of weeks.

Same(ish): Harlem nocturne is still a bit of a pig. the chromatic runs are getting faster, but still too slow to be in time.

Worse - Nothing really - its all starting to hold together which is really encouraging and motivating.

I wish I could send you some ~ had to hire someone to shovel off the rooftops - we are having a blizzard today, they're predicting another two feet of snow.....

You're better off with your umbrella instead of a snow shovel. Especially with that "patch"! Be good

Garry,
Remember you are a member, indeed Founder Mamber of the Croydon and Sarf Lundun Massive and as such should not display so much sympathy.

Ouch, Nick. Sympathy and hope it clears up soon. There, that's risked the wrath of the Croydon bunch, but I couldn't resist the following.

My music teacher always said to watch out for the bridge. Did you go into something sharp, or was it B...flat?

Welcome back as well, PeeDee. Hope it went OK. Thought of you today while at a National Trussed garden.

Serious. Better: recovering from some intonation problems on my PM after 1)tightening up the G# closing arm a fraction, and 2) switching back to the TJ Horn for a while and revisiting how much freeer blowing the PM is (a point I made on another thread, but hadn't actually done it for a month).

Not of the Croydon sarf london brigade you have my sympathy, and hope the bridge is ok also

were you running or walking at the time. Low bridge??
2 Iboprofen + 2 Paracetomol every 4 hours = sax playing!!
Unless you have a hernia of course

Re: What's New/ Better/ Worse this week
Hi all,

Thanks for the good wishes. It was a race which went along a canal path. The 5 mile mark was just as the path narrowed under an arched bridge. I looked at my watch just as I reached the bridge and strayed a bit close to it!!!

Got carted off to hospital in an ambulance with blood gushing out of the wound. I did get seen straight away though, 'cos they didn't want me bleeding all over the waiting room!!!

Managed a bit of practice last night with no side effects. I've got to crack on as I've got my grade 2 in March.

New: Spyro Gyra - Morning Dance & Minor Pentatonic in A

Better: Opening throat more and getting a clearer tone on the Alto

Worse/Same: Still struggling to read notes correctly at any appreciable speed, still learning pieces and relying on memory instead of the sheet.

Better: Grade 2 tune 'Song for my Father"

Not worse, but no better: Grade 2 tune "For Turiya" (don't think I'll be choosing that one!!)

Nick and PeeDee ~ hope this finds you both mended

New: the foot of ice on the edge of the roof

Better: I get to leave the house and go to Concert Band rehearsal tonight at the college.

Worse: the gallons of water that just gushed out of my ceiling from the ice melting!
